A Simpler 2015...

A New Year, a fresh start, renewed vigour and a fistful of resolutions and a huge list of goals for 2015...

Yes, this year IS going to be different!

Gym, healthy food, remember everybody's birthdays, grow my passion project, do Qi Gong every day, finish my house jobs, find my dream man and do 100 things I've never done before, climb Everest...

Or maybe I'll just forget all the resolutions, lists of goals, rip them up and just BE.

Unplan - Live More.

Last year I bought a well known yearbook for 2014 to plan and plot mischief for the year ahead. Inside were lists for 100 goals of the year (I listed about 40 0r so and then ran out!) personal and business. Plans for how your business will grow and ways to self care.

I was enthused and excited. By January I'd already planned my summer trips! But I remember also feeling a wee bit drained at times as I filled in the book. My head already felt overwhelmed by the goals I needed to achieve. It felt as if the book allowed little room from spontaneity, unpredictability, surprises. Or maybe that was me? I felt this what I needed and should do…when really I knew better.

Well, life did not turn put as planned last year! Ha haaaa! Despite all my best intentions, the year was punctuated by burnout, shingles, post viral infections, cancelled trips, gigs and holidays, seemingly never ending essential work on my house and car and a creeping red rash across my cheeks. Rather attractive...if I were an extra on Shaun of the Dead.

So I’ve not reviewed my 2014 year book. Stuff it. I'm not going to self flagellate over what I didn't achieve. Maybe I'll burn it. In the end, 2014 was a year of massive growth and change and LETTING GO of expectations. Of just BEING okay with what IS.

Goals are great in and of themselves. They give us an anchor point to aim for. I have friends who set New Year goals and achieve most of them each year! Yet we can be so ultra focused in attaining them that we miss the wonder and magic that surrounds our everyday lives. Or the opportunities we didn't plan for.  We can burn out. We can feel like failures if we don't achieve them. And like my 2014, our everyday lives may throw obstacles in the way that stop us in our tracks. It's often our soul speaking - STOP!

For some weird reason the conventional positive psychology of goal planning and visualising my future shabang doesn't work very well for me and never really has! I know this yet I still tried until I started experimenting with different ways of being.

What does work for me is a counter intuitive approach, the unplanning way. The way of allowing and organic growth. Of a looser focus.Of following my deeper instincts and my passion. If it feels good…so,

You are hereby given permission to rip up your goals and expectations and be a big bright beautiful imperfect YOU in 2015!

Love the life you already have!

So here's a few little tips for a simpler 2015  (that I'm following…loosely of course...)

  • VIBE - Focus more on the vibe you want to create for the coming year, how do you want to feel? Rather than what you want to achieve. Check out Susannah Conway's Find your Word free mini course (it’s very simple - promise) — let that word be an inspiration for the coming year...
  • SPACE - dare to leave space in your life. Yes, delicious wide open space in your diary to allow the unexpected to arise even if it means nothing happens. A lot happens when nothing happens...
  • UNPLAN - throw out all the goals that you don't feel passionate about or delegate. I dare you. Download my Unplanner - a visual reminder to self care, have fun and value the little wonders of life (coming soon!) and make an intention to do more soft pleasures and mark them on your Unplanner.
  • SIMPLIFY - slowly create more simplicity in your life, streamline your finances, declutter your home (this truly MAKES a massive difference), only commit to what you love...
  • SLEEEEEP - prioritise sleep. Lie in, snooze, doze, nap. You will feel loads better.
  • CREATE - explore your creativity, doodle, journal, knit, bake, weave willow, sing, dance - find a passion you love and this will superzoom your inner tingliness to the outer stratosphere and boost your mental and emotional wellbeing.
  • BE - yep, harder said than done but totally possible for even the most un-beings amongst us. Cloud watch, meditate, dance, yoga, make love, do laughter yoga...
  • LAUGH - yeah! The Laughter Angel says laugh laugh laugh...get my Laughter Manifesto here!
  • LOVE - prioritise time with the ones you love - family, friends, animals and release those feel good hormones. HUG as much as you can.

I wish you a wonderfully simple 2015 full of *everyday bliss* and *ordinary sparkling moments*...

PS. Gosh, imagine if I really did climb Everest this year! It would be a flippin' miracle but then I do believe in miracles...
